Slow Cycle Tour Intro.
September 10th 2006 04:56
Hello from the slowest cycle tourer ever to pedal the planet.
I fell in love with long distance cycle touring around the time I fell for a Dutchman – funny coincidence huh? Last year I cycled solo and unassisted around Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos on an 18-year-old road bike called “Rocky”.
I am currently pushing my new bike "Kermit" up the east coast of Australia. I’ve come from Perth to Melbourne and am aiming my front wheel at Amsterdam in the Netherlands. At my pace, this could literally be the cycle tour of a lifetime.
But long distance cycling is more than just pumping out the kilometres - right? I stop in every village for a chat, I go into classrooms to teach impromptu English classes, I stalk wildlife (especially birds) with my camera and take copious notes about all the amazing things I see while on the road - all of which I'm hoping to share with like minded people.
This blog is for you if:
*you enjoy the easy life and slow travel
*you want reassurance that the unfit, overweight and un-lycra-clad can cycle tour too
*you want to know how to keep your backside healthy after a long day in the saddle
*you are interested in any cycling routes between Perth - Melbourne - Cairns - South East Asia - Asia and Europe
*you want to find the best pig-out places on the way
*you like to argue about how to carry your gear, where to camp, what to see etc
*you are on the road yourself
*you want to know who else is on the road
