My totally subjective guide to Australia's worst cycling roads to date...

Ok, we are not gung-ho cyclists so there are way worse routes than these. But for anyone else out there who tends to cycle middle of the road rather than off the beaten track here are some yucky roads...
The Lakes Way Road, Bulahdelah to Forster, NSW - rough as guts edges, disappearing verges, speeding traffic, buses that hate you.
The Old Wilmington Road, Port Augusta to Wilmington, SA - sagging tarmac laid over large, bluestone, flagstones creates the road from hell.
Ocean Road, South Australia Border to Portland, Vic - I thought it a joke when I saw that the verges had recently been "rehabilitated" with a million dollar bill. Tight corners, rough verges, sharp hills and logging trucks.
John Eyre Highway, the 90 mile straight near Baxter Rest Area, WA - half asleep truckies roaring past, verges covered in high prickles, so many carcasses there was nowhere to stop and rest without crunching over the bones of roadkill.
